Desert safari guide

Dubai Desert Safari: Morning or Evening, Standard or Premium?

A Dubai desert safari is really a question about your day, not the desert. Visit Dubai, the emirate's official tourism site, says morning and evening desert trips both run all year, so there is no single right season to choose between them. This guide lines up what each of Holidayys' three desert safaris gives you — standard evening, premium evening and morning — against the time it asks for on your day, so you can match the trip to your schedule rather than the other way round.

The quick pick

If youGo with
Want an evening with dinner and live showsStandard evening safariIt pairs dune bashing in an air-conditioned 4x4 with a camel ride, then a BBQ buffet of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, belly dance, tanoura and a fire show.
Want the same evening listed as premiumPremium evening safariOur listing names the same dune bashing, camel ride, BBQ buffet and belly dance, tanoura and fire shows as the standard card, for the same 6 hours; it does not spell out a separate camp or vehicle count, so ask us at booking if that distinction matters to you.
Would rather give the day than the eveningMorning: Mleiha and HattaIt runs 6 hours 30 minutes, trading dinner for a fuller circuit: dune bashing at Mleiha, a stop at Fossil Rock and Camel Rock, then onward to Hatta for its Honey Bee Garden, Heritage Village and dam, with just a snack along the way.
Are travelling with a child under 4A standard or premium evening safari, not the morning tripOur morning listing rules out children younger than 4; our standard and premium listings set no minimum age at all, so check with us first if your child is very young.

All three bring you home the same day

All three of Holidayys' desert safaris run as same-day round trips, door to door from your Dubai hotel, whichever one you book.

Book the standard or premium evening safari at least 1 day before you travel; the morning trip needs 2 days' notice. None of our three listings sets out what happens if your plans change, so check the cancellation policy on the safari's own page before you pay.

Evening or morning: what actually changes

Both evening safaris run 6 hours and end the same way: dune bashing in a 4x4, a camel ride, then a BBQ buffet of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes with belly dance, tanoura and a fire show.

The morning trip runs longer, at 6 hours 30 minutes, and swaps the dinner and shows for a fuller circuit: dune bashing at Mleiha, a stop at Fossil Rock and Camel Rock, then onward to Hatta for its Honey Bee Garden, Heritage Village and dam, with just a snack. Children younger than 4 can't come along, and it isn't a short sunrise run — if watching the sunrise matters most, our hot-air balloon lifts off before dawn for about 30 minutes over the desert, for ages 6 to 80 and up to 90 kg, and takes no pregnant passengers.

Standard or premium: the same listed inclusions

Side by side, our premium listing names the same dune bashing, camel ride, BBQ buffet and belly dance, tanoura and fire shows as the standard evening safari, for the same 6 hours.

The premium listing describes no different camp, vehicle or seating, so ask us at booking what the premium safari adds if that matters to you.

Children, and who should check with us first

Our morning listing rules out children under 4. Our standard and premium evening listings set no minimum age at all — a contrast with the balloon's floor of 6 and the quad bikes' floor of 18.

None of our three safari listings sets out who should skip the dune bashing on health grounds or during pregnancy; the balloon's own listing does, and refuses pregnant passengers and anyone over 90 kg. If that matters to you, ask us before you book a safari.

If a 4x4 isn't what you want

A quad bike tour gives you 60 minutes on the dunes yourself, with pickup between 15:00 and 15:45 from a Dubai city hotel and a shared van back; drivers must be 18 or older. Quad bike ride with dinner is the same 60 minutes plus a BBQ buffet, belly dance, tanoura and fire shows, with pickup between 13:30 and 14:00.

Desert safari FAQs

Should I book a morning safari or an evening one?

Visit Dubai notes that desert trips run all year regardless of time of day, so it really comes down to what you want from the day: our evening options bring dinner and a show, our morning option trades them for a longer circuit around Mleiha and Hatta.

What does a Dubai desert safari actually include?

On ours: dune bashing in an air-conditioned 4x4 and a camel ride; the evening safaris add a BBQ buffet with belly dance, tanoura and a fire show, while the morning trip trades all that for a stop at Mleiha's rocks, Hatta's Honey Bee Garden and a trail snack.

What time does the evening safari start and finish?

Our listing does not give a clock time: it runs 6 hours, with hotel pickup starting 30 minutes before departure, and must be booked at least 1 day ahead — your exact pickup time is set on your confirmation.

Is dinner included on every safari?

On both evening safaris, yes — a BBQ buffet of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Our morning trip includes a snack instead.

How far ahead do I need to book?

At least 1 day ahead for the standard or premium evening safari, and 2 days ahead for the morning trip.

What is different about the premium evening safari?

Our listing names the same dune bashing, camel ride, dinner and shows as the standard safari; it does not spell out a further upgrade, so ask us at booking if that matters to you.

Can children join a desert safari?

Not the morning trip, which rules out children under 4. Our standard and premium evening listings set no minimum age at all, so check with us first for a very young child.

Who should check with us before booking the dune bashing?

Our safari listings do not set out a health or pregnancy restriction for dune bashing. Our hot-air balloon does: no pregnant passengers, and a weight limit of 90 kg.

I want to see the sunrise over the dunes — which trip is that?

Not our morning safari, which is a Mleiha-and-Hatta touring day rather than a sunrise run. Our hot-air balloon lifts off before dawn for about 30 minutes over the desert, for ages 6 to 80.

What if I'd rather drive myself than be driven across the dunes?

A quad bike tour: 60 minutes on the dunes, picked up between 15:00 and 15:45; or quad bike ride with dinner, the same 60 minutes plus a BBQ buffet and live shows, picked up between 13:30 and 14:00. Both need drivers 18 or older.
