About this experience
Established in 1989, the Malaysian Wildlife Sanctuary founded an elephant sanctuary within the Krau Wildlife Reserve, dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of rare Asian elephants. This sanctuary serves as a vital rehabilitation center for rescued elephants, providing specialized care and support. Currently, it is estimated that approximately 1,200 elephants inhabit the wild territories of Malaysia, with about 30 to 35 elephants residing at the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Many of these elephants have been relocated due to ongoing threats such as poaching and deforestation driven by urban and agricultural expansion. The sanctuary's conservation program focuses on preserving the species, nurturing young elephants until they are ready for release into the wild. Elephants unable to survive independently remain at the sanctuary permanently and are trained to assist in future rescue operations for other wild elephants in need. Visitors to the sanctuary can participate in a range of engaging activities, including close interactions with the elephants and observation from an elevated deck. Our comprehensive full-day private tour spans eight hours, commencing with a 9:00 AM pick-up from accommodations within Kuala Lumpur City Centre. For guests staying on the outskirts of the city, pick-up can be arranged for a nominal fee. The tour package includes private transportation, entrance fees, lunch with beverages, and complimentary Wi-Fi in selected vehicles. Guests will travel to Kuala Gandah, located in Temerloh, Pahang, with a journey time of approximately one and a half hours. The itinerary features opportunities for elephant feeding, observing elephant bathing (subject to conditions), viewing an informative elephant conservation documentary. Following an enriching day at the sanctuary, guests will enjoy a traditional local lunch. The return trip includes a scenic drive through an indigenous village, offering insight into the native community. Additionally, the tour features a visit to Deerland, where guests can explore a private mini zoo and feed the resident deer, enhancing the overall experience.
