Best of São Vicente: Full-Day Island Tour with Local Guide
Welcome to one of Cabo Verde’s most beautiful and welcoming islands. We’re excited to share our unique island with you! Start with a guided walk through Mindelo’s historic center, where colonial architecture, vibrant colors, and local culture meet. Visit the bustling Fish, African, and Municipal Markets (closed Sundays). Take in scenic views of Monte Cara, Laginha Beach, and Mindelo from panoramic lookouts. Drive up Monte Verde, the island’s highest peak (774m), and enjoy a tea or coffee at the Tea House (closed Sundays/holidays). Explore traditional fishing villages like Salamansa and Calhau, and witness authentic daily life. Swim or relax at Baía das Gatas’ natural blue lagoon (bring swimwear). Discover Santo Antão: Day Trip from São Vicente with Local Guide
Start your day with an early pick-up from your Mindelo accommodation and transfer to the harbor for a scenic 1-hour ferry ride to Santo Antão. Keep an eye out for dolphins or flying fish along the way! Upon arrival in Porto Novo, meet your local guide and begin your full-day island tour. Travel the stunning Old Mountain Road to the volcanic crater of Cova de Paúl and enjoy breathtaking views from Delgadinho Ridge. Visit picturesque towns and villages like Ribeira Grande, Ponta do Sol, Sinagoga, and Paúl. Enjoy a traditional Cape Verdean lunch at a local restaurant, then stop at a distillery to learn about Grogue, the local sugarcane spirit. Return to Porto Novo via the stunning Coastal Road, where mountain tunnels and ocean views amaze. Take the ferry back to São Vicente and transfer to your accommodation in Mindelo. - São Vicente:
- Getting Around:
- Most of our travel will be by vehicle, but we’ll also enjoy a short city walk (around 1 hour) to stretch our legs and explore a bit more up close.
- Monte Verde Summit:We’ll be traveling up to the summit of Monte Verde, so please be aware this area is at high altitude.
- Beach Stop – Baía das Gatas:
- We’ll make a stop at this beautiful beach! If you’d like to swim, please wear your bathing suit under your clothes and bring a towel, as there are no changing facilities at the beach.
- What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothing and shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), and a bottle of water to stay refreshed.
- Lunch (not included):
- We’ll stop for lunch between 12:30–13:30 at a lovely local restaurant. Meals are at your own expense, with an average cost of 12–20 euros per person.
- The restaurant accepts euros, escudos (local currency), and Visa cards.
- Guest Information:
- Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions, allergies, mobility needs, or special occasions we should be aware of — we’ll do our best to make your experience perfect!
- Languages:
- For open group tours, your guide may speak more than one language to make sure everyone enjoys the experience.
- Sundays & Public Holidays:
- On these days, markets, the cultural center, and the tea house are closed. We’ll still pass by and share stories about local life on the island.
- Santo Antão:

- BREAKFAST INFORMATION
- If your hotel provides breakfast, please inform them at least one day in advance of your early morning departure. Most hotels can prepare a takeaway breakfast upon request.
- Alternatively, you may purchase breakfast on the ferry.

- TRAVEL NOTICE
- Ferry conditions may vary depending on wind, so please take precautions if you are prone to seasickness.
- Parts of the itinerary include mountain roads and high-altitude areas
- MEALS
- Lunch will be at a local restaurant during the excursion and is not included.
- Typical cost: 10–20 euros, payable in cash (euros or local currency only).
- Please inform us in advance of any dietary restrictions or food allergies
- NOTE: For open group tours, the local guide may provide commentary in more than one language to accommodate all participants.
- São Vicente:
- Wear comfortable clothes, walking shoes, and sun protection, bring bottle of water
- Bring water, swimsuit, and towel if you plan to swim (no changing facilities)
- At Monte Verde (NOTE: high altitude) it can be chilly, bring a sweater or light jacket
- Cash (euros or local currency) or major credit cards accepted for lunch and personal expenses
- Camera or smartphone to capture the experience
- Santo Antão:
- To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, please come prepared with the following:
- Passport (or a clear photo on your phone) — required for ferry travel
- Comfortable clothing and walking shoes suitable for short walks and sightseeing
- Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection
- Light sweater or jacket, especially between November and March, for the cooler ocean and mountain air
- Water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
- Cash (euros or local currency) for lunch and personal expenses — credit cards are not accepted in most local businesses
- Personal medications, including seasickness tablets if needed
- Camera or smartphone to capture the experience
- Most of our travel will be by van, with opportunities for short walks at scenic or cultural highlights.
